This course will enable you to understand Family, Business and Shareholder governance, your duties as a director, and how to implement appropriate structures to meet your family’s needs.
This is the only Governance and Directors course specifically designed for family businesses in Australia.
Governance refers to the structures, systems and processes concerned with ensuring an organisation’s overall direction, effectiveness, supervision (control) and accountability.
Having systems in place for both business and family governance are some of the best ways to ensure the sustainable management and long term success of your family business. This is because formal governance structures assist open communication between family members, reduce internal conflicts, nurture the next generation of leaders, and develop a shared family vision for the future.
In addition, as a member of a family business with a material impact on the direction and strategy of the business, it is important you know your role and meet your legal responsibilities, as you may be as liable as any director on the board.
The Family Business Governance and Directorship Course Online establishes the value that a board brings to the business. It will also go over your duties, responsibilities and how to structure a board that is appropriate for the needs of your family business.
This online course is delivered across five weekly sessions, followed by a group coaching session. All sessions will be held via zoom.
Between sessions you will be provided with activities to help you work through the content and apply it back in your family business to help you gain the most from the course. You can then bring your questions / challenges to the next session to help resolve them.

Follow-up Support and Guidance Sessions
We find that once our participants complete FBA’s Governance and Directorship Program some find continuing support and guidance very beneficial.
Typically, as participants implement their plans additional questions can arise, they encounter unforeseen challenges, want to seek feedback on how other participants would approach a situation, or simply reconnect to share progress.
Participants have the opportunity to come back together with other families, for three (3) further sessions with their FBA facilitator. Sessions occur 3-4 months apart following the completion of the program, each session is two hours.
Participants who have participated in these additional sessions have found them invaluable as they accelerate progress by resolving issues, enable them to refocus, get the boost needed to maintain momentum, and increase the return from their initial investment in the Governance and Directorship program.
Sessions cost $600(incl GST) per person, or $1200(incl GST) for multiple members of the same Family Business. Bookings for these sessions can only be made through your course facilitator or contact education@familybusiness.org.au
