Tell us about your business.
I founded Prestige Inhome Care in 2005, with the mission to support people to stay in the comfort of their own home. As a Registered Nurse and the son of a Doctor, I observed firsthand the transformative power of 1-to-1 personal care in the home, where I could connect with my patients and better meet their individual needs.
We started the business because we saw an enormous gap. People were going into nursing homes sometimes when they didn’t have to, because they felt they had no other option. We wanted to make sure that as people age, they could get the care they needed in their own homes and stay where they were most comfortable.
As the founder and CEO, together with my sister, the Chief Operating Officer, Thea McCroary, I’ve seen Prestige Inhome Care evolve into a trusted company with 20 years’ industry expertise. We pioneered 24/7 in-home care, bringing it to homes across Melbourne, Geelong, Mornington Peninsula, Sydney and the Sunshine Coast. Our family founded business has grown from seven team members to over 1000 care and office staff, who supported nearly 3000 families in 2024 alone.
What has been your greatest success?
In 2025 our business turns 20 years old, so it’s been a long journey, and I think my greatest success is our growth and the positive impact we have on people’s lives. I still remember the first family we helped, and how proud I was. Then you’re able to help 10, and 100 clients, then you're into the thousands. That impact is extremely rewarding.
Likewise, I’m proud of the impact on our workforce. We wouldn't be able to do anything if it wasn’t for the people who are face to face with our clients and the teams that support them. I remember when we had four people in the office, maybe 10 carers out in the field, and just how proud I felt of the work that we were doing.
I remember the responsibility I felt as their employer for helping them put food on the table, for helping them advance their careers, fulfilling their career or work goals. Likewise, the impact they’ve had on the business is an enormous measure of success for me now with the workforce over 1000. I still take that responsibility extremely seriously and am deeply proud and honoured that people choose to share their working lives, their skills and their talents with us and work alongside us to follow that dream and fulfil that vision.
Why did you join FBA?
Over the years, a few people in my social and business network mentioned FBA and encouraged me to join. I looked into it and I’ve been very pleasantly surprised. I’ve connected with some amazing people and had the opportunity to learn from them.
I’ve enjoyed getting offsite to visit a few businesses. Learning at Stillwell BMW, how their family journey evolved was fascinating. As a guitar lover and someone who owns a Maton guitar, it was really special to visit the Maton Guitar factory. The highlights included meeting the family and understanding how their business came to be, as well as getting to see the guitars being made.
What advice would you give to other family businesses?
Surround yourself with good people and don’t try to solve every problem yourself. It is very helpful to solve your problems and address challenges through learning from someone else you know.
I was very lucky from day one to have fantastic business mentors, other family members and other businesspeople supporting me that I could lean on and learn from, and ask questions when I was unsure. I know not everyone has that so my advice is to seek that out, especially if you are a family business. Sometimes, with a family business, you’re great technicians and you’ve got something that becomes a business and all of a sudden that business is a substantial commercial enterprise. And perhaps you started as a tradesperson or as a guitar manufacturer or a nurse or a businessperson. Having business mentors and joining something like FBA where you can network with other business owners who may be dealing with similar challenges is very important.
