Celebrating National Family Business Day
Every September, Australia and New Zealand celebrates National Family Business Day – a day designed to recognise the significant contribution family businesses make to the Australian economy, community and culture. This year, National Family Business Day will take place on Tuesday, 19 September 2023.
“Everywhere you turn, there is a family business, whether it is the local café, restaurant or shop, or buying goods or services from a family-owned business for your home or business”, said Catherine Sayer, CEO of Family Business Association.
“Family businesses come in all sizes - small, medium and large, in just about every sector in our economy. Up to 70% of Australian and New Zealand businesses are family-owned and the sector employs 50% of the workforce. Many are known, loved and trusted ranging from startup businesses to those that have been in operation for multi generations.
National Family Business Day is time to stop and reflect that family businesses are the backbone of the economy and it is a day we can all celebrate and appreciate their hard work. We know consumers like to support family owned businesses and the Family Owned Business Emblem identifies them as such.
On National Family Business Day, look out for the businesses celebrating across Australia and New Zealand and think about your next purchase being from a family owned business. And let’s support family businesses that support your community and celebrate #NFBD23!” she said.
